Made possible by the generous donations received this year, EdUCate! gave out $45,000 in grants to the five schools in the University City cluster. The Foundation received and evaluated over 40 grant requests of which 23 were funded at an average of $1,958 per grant. Dan Squiller of EdUCate! remarked, "Although it's rewarding to see the value these grants bring to our teachers, the gap between what is needed in the classroom and district resources to satisfy those needs is unfortunately widening." Grants funded included computers, library materials, science lab equipment, reading tools, math teaching aids, and language arts materials. The grants were evaluated and awarded based on educational value, number of students that benefit, creativity, lifespan, and practicality. As the awards demonstrate, your financial support makes a direct and immediate difference where it is needed the most, the classroom. Thank you!
